About Masjid al-Haram (general information)
Masjid al-Haram, located in the heart of Makkah, is the holiest mosque in Islam. Its history dates to the time of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and his son Isma'il (Ishmael), who were divinely instructed to build the Kaaba at this site.
1. Maqam Ibrahim (The Station of Abraham): A sacred site within Masjid al-Haram, housing the footprints of Prophet Ibrahim standing as a testament to his role in constructing the Kaaba.
2. Hateem (Semi-Circular Enclosure): A semi-circular section adjacent to the Kaaba, originally part of the Kaaba's structure. Praying inside the Hateem is considered as praying inside the Kaaba.
3. Black Stone (Al-Hajar al-Aswad): Set in the eastern corner of Kaaba, the sacred stone was brought down from heavens by angel Jibrael once Kaaba was completed. Each round of Tawaf starts/stops at the Black Stone.
